Sony SZ Brightness Control Fix on Windows 7

If you have upgraded your Sony SZ laptop to Windows 7, you might notice one small annoying bug. After closing the lid and the monitor shuts off, when reopening it the brightness controls (Fn+F5 and Fn+F6) don’t work. You might also notice that the brightness controls in Windows Power Options Control Panel suddenly dissapears. But the hibernate and sleep functions still work. The only fix you might have in mind is restarting the computer. Actually, this problem can be fixed without having to restart the machine everytime the problem occurs.

Brightness Control For Windows 7 Fix

If the “Do Nothing” setting on battery/power option doesn’t resolve the issue (the monitor still shuts off), you might  want to try reinstalling the latest video driver available, either ATI or NVIDIA depending on what video card you have.

If both fixes still don’t solve your problem, you might want to try disabling the shutdown LCD when closing the lid by going to device manager and look for ACPI Lid. Don’t just disabling it, because some people finding it is going to create another problem, but replace it with “volume manager” instead.
