I read here to concider an up or downgrade to either windows 7 or windows xp.
    DO NOT DO THIS
for reasons unknown to me or anyone I know, this computer, along with some other modles hp has come out with vista built in ic pretty much incompatible with a downgrade or an upgrade.
I have this modle, and my mother installed windows xp, it crashed.
I bought a windows 7 disk, and it fixed it for awhile, and then i realised that it was missing drivers, I told it to search for the missing drivers, it crashed
The nvidia card in this along with windows vista drivers were specificaly written for windows vista.
if you upgrade or downgrade, beware of the ‘coprocessor’ drivers going missing.
this directly controlls your dual processing chip, and it cant be fixed as far as I know because I have searched and tried many different driver downloads from many diverent sites and threads, and still no good.
And dont expect any help from the hp site, they suck and offer absolutly no support whatsoever except telling you that they dont advise changing the operating system.
(this is not ment as a complaint for this computer, I just want to get that out of the way because the discription above said to downgrade or upgrade for better performance, dont do it)

that aside, i love this computer, im an animation student so abuse the graphics and media capabilities. I wish it was a bit stronger of a computer, but it gets the job done.

its nearly impossible to load WIN-XP.
VISTA, sucks,, and makes the laptop run like crap.
but it Seems to run pretty good with,
    WIN-7-32-bit.
probably run even better with Linux.

if you upgrade to windows 7 all drivers can be found but you may have to take it to a computer expert if you are not experienced with getting drivers, as with all these hp models, they cook the video chip and it is very costly to replace the motherboard, my advice is to stay away
