The upcoming Intel 6-core/12-thread Xeon (Gulftown) processor details is leaked and apparently the CPU is going to be used on Apple Mac Pro. While the rumors have it that the hexacore chip would be branded the Core i9, but now it seems Intel is not going to do that and stick with Core i7 Extreme with “X” suffix. The interesting Intel Core i7-980X Extreme Edition itself running at 3.3GHz clockspeed.

Amazingly, the 32nm chip comes with 12MB cache and support Hyper-Threading and Turbo Boost at the same time. Many presumed that Apple and Intel will negotiate some temporary deals, and we will soon see Core i7-980X Extreme in Mac Pro in about March 2010. It is also expected that Apple will add up to 12 cores and 24 threads on the Mac Pro.
