Installing Leopard on New Hard Drive

Installing Leopard on new hard drive is quite troublesome for some people. One of the Leopard requirements that you should know is the hard disk must be formatted as HFS before installing this OS. If it is not, the installer will not be able to recognize hard disk on PC and it will be grayed out, so you won’t be able to install it. Steps on Installation Leopard

Be sure to follow these steps to successfully install Leopard on a PC:

  • Insert your Leopard installation DVD
  • Turn off your computer
  • Turn it on again
  • When booting, hold down ‘C’ key
  • Wait until you see Apple logo, then release the ‘C’ key
  • Wait until Leopard install screen shows up
  • Click ‘Next’
  • Go to ‘Utilities’
  • Select ‘Disk Utility’
  • Select your drive and format it as HFS (journaled)
  • When it is done formatting, exit Disk Utility by going to Disk Utility menu and clicking ‘Quit’
  • Continue with the installation

After performing above steps, your formatted drive will now shows up as one of the installation destination and you will be able to install Mac Leopard on the disk.
