Upgrade Catalyst Drivers in Linux

After downloading the installer, create the necessary packages for your distribution with commands below in a terminal:

./ati-driver-installer-9-8-x86.x86_64.run –buildpkg distro/version

Note: Replace “distro” with your distribution name and “version” with your distribution version.

Just in case if you want to return to the "free" ATI driver:

chmod +x /usr/share/ati/fglrx-uninstall.shsudo sh /usr/share/ati/fglrx-uninstall.sh

Enjoy the new Catalyst on your Linux. Unfortunately, the new 2.6.31 kernel is not be supported by Catalyst 9.8.
