If you are having trouble installing because you just reinstall Windows 7 x64 on your PC and get no sound, you might want to try downloading driver from Acer site, but seems like drivers that are available only for Conexant Audio drivers, which is for 32-bit OS.

Workaround to this is by finding out the right hardware ID of your maching. Here’s how you do it:

  1. Go to device manager
  2. Click on audio
  3. Choose Properties and hit details tab
  4. Drop down menu and find hardware ID.

Once you have the hardware ID, note that. With that ID, you will get the driver pretty easier by searching around. You might bump into some other laptop manufacturers which have Vista supported, but it might work as well by using compatibility mode.

To locate Realtek ALC888 audio driver, here’s the steps:

  1. Go to Realtek site.
  2. Hit Downloads link located at the top
  3. Select High Definition Audio Codecs.
  4. Accept the agreement by tick the box and choose Next
  5. Download the .exe for Vista/7 64-bit
  6. Run the installer and wait until finish.

Once you have run the installer, restart your Acer Aspire m5600 PC desktop. The sound should heard fine. For your information, you don’t need x86 + x64 driver, just download the x64.
