Windows XP login screen freeze on Lenovo Thinkpad laptops may be caused by many factors. Fix for this problem includes the one when you are able to get into the welcome screen after booting, selecting username and entering password but the message “loading personal settings” keep showing and freezes up. After a while, the delay is over and you successfully entered Windows.
XP Login Screen Freeze Workaround
First of all, you should check whether you have disabling services or not. See if you have disabled Windows Wireless Zero Config service. If it is disabled, set it back to Automatic. Restart the machine to see if it is the culprit.
If that doesn’t resolve your problem, you might have cluttered your Windows with many programs. Try disabling startup programs. Go to Start > Run. Type “msconfig” (without quotes) and disable by checking programs you don’t need.
Another issue is the disk fragmentation. Try to do defrag and optimize the registry. You can use many free programs to optimize the registry and cleaning up unused hard drive space such as CCleaner.
If all above solutions don’t work, do a clean install on your Windows.
