The problem of strange noise on x200 can be caused by few things, and one of them is because of the hard drive. Make sure that you have checked your soundcard and it is working fine before judging it’s the harddisk that caused the problem.

To make sure that the hard drive is the culprit, try disconnecting the hard drive and let the computer run for an hour. If you don’t hear the strange noise on your x200 laptop, try reconnecting the HDD back. Once you have done this and you hear a strange noise, surely the problem comes from hard disk. You might have to replace your HDD with a new one. Backup your data first before going to service center to repair or replace it.
