Removing Alive Idea Desktop and installing NVIDIA driver on Lenovo IdeaPad Y550 causing brightness problem, according to many reports. The Fn key which usually is used to change the brightness settings doesn’t work. Uninstalling Energy Manager worsen the case, where users reported that their Lenovo Y550 screen turned out to white and the monitor shut off automatically.

It looks like the backlit screen has some problem. This issue might come from the incomplete removal of Alive Idea Desktop. Before going too far, you should check whether you have the Energy Manager version correct or not. You should install Energy Manager version 4.4.0.8 for Windows 7 64-bit.
Follow these steps to make your Fn Button works again:
- Reinstall Alive Idea Desktop and then uninstall it
- Restart your machine
- Once Windows is up, reinstall Energy Manager
Now the problem of can not change Y550 brightness is fixed.
