Fix Bootloader Problem on Thinkpad T400 on Windows 7 Installation

Have problem with OS bootloader when installing Windows 7 on your Lenovo Thinkpad T400? This surely make the machine can not boot. You are going to need Windows 7 Recovery Disk to make this fix works, since automatic way will not work.

Once you have Windows 7 Recovery Disk, do the following steps:

  1. Fire up command prompt and choose “Diskpart”
  2. On “List disk” choose the right one for you, just select your Windows 7 “system reserved disk” if you had – Win7 installed BEFORE OSx, it should be Disk 0
  3. Choose “Select disk 0″ and enter “List partition”
  4. Now select “Select partition 1″ if you selected disk 0
  5. Choose “Active” so you’ll get message such as “partition has been marked active”
  6. Enter “Exit”

Next step is to fix your MBR and BOOTLOADER:

Enter “bootrec /fixmbr”
Enter “bootrec /fixboot”

After all done, exit and reboot your machine. Hopefully Windows 7 should run without errors.
