Dell Studio 1440 comes with Intel Q9550 core 2 processor and bundled with Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64 bit installed. If you are having sound problems on the laptop, like when you are listening music or audio, but the sound is choppy and even skips. Updating the audio driver to IDT high definiton audio codec driver might not solve the problem.
The cause of choppy or skipping audio might come from the Vista OS. Firstly, you might want to check for HDMI output, go to Control Panel > Sounds and set the default playback device to IDT.
Skipping / Choppy Audio Fix
Usually the choppy or skipping audio on Dell Studio 1440 laptop happened when the wireless is turned on.
The problem is easily solved by turning the wireless. Just press Fn+F2 on the keyboard or turn off the wireless switch if your model has one. If the wireless is causing the problem, you might notice a partial improvement when the wireless is turned off. Sometimes switching to a different brand of wireless card can fix this.
Anyway, if you are going to degrade the laptop to Win XP, you might want to get Dell 1440 laptop drivers for XP.
