Alps Touchpad Not Working Fix

Dell Alps Touchpad not working? You might notice that the busy cursor freezes, especially when working on Windows Vista. This usually indicate that there’s something wrong with the touchpad driver and need to be fixed. There are two solution for this, you can either do them both or just pick one and see if it resolve the problem.

These two solutions involved regedit hack, so bear in mind to follow the exact steps and backing up your registry first before changing anything in regedit.

Solution 1 – Fixing Touchpad Driver

This will fix the issues with the animated cursors:

  1. Click Start, when in Search field, type “regedit.exe” and press Enter on the keyboard.
  2. If you get message box showing asking for credentials, just click on Continue or log in as administrator first.
  3. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Alps\Apoint
  4. Look for CursorChangeType DWORD entry, double click and change the value to 0
  5. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Alps\Apoint
  6. Look for CursorChangeType DWORD entry, double click and change the value to 0
  7. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Alps\Apoint_Default
  8. Look for CursorChangeType DWORD entry, double click and change the value to 0

Solution 2 – Disable Apoint.exe

By disabling Apoint.exe, animated cursors will be resolved. Left-control key will also fixed. As an addition, the message that is displayed on the screen when pressing CapsLock will be disabled as well, and you will not be able to scroll using the touchpad.

  1. Click Start, when on the Start Search field, type “regedit.exe” and press Enter on the keyboard
  2. If you get message box showing asking for credentials, just click on Continue or log in as administrator first.
  3. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
  4. Look for the entry with a value of  “C:\Program Files\DellTPad\Apoint.exe”
  5. Delete the entry
  6. Close the Registry Editor
  7. Restart your computer
